My cover with Vera Farmiga

I was very excited to shoot the lovely Vera Farmiga for the cover of this weeks Village Voice. Vera just had her directorial debut, Higher Ground,  in NYC last week with & met with rave reviews. Our shoot was a calorie burning photo sprint from 11:45am – 12pm, the energy was upbeat and we had a great time. Vera is the embodiment of loveliness & it was a privilege to photograph her. John Dixon, Art Director extraordinaire, wanted to do some tight cropped headshots for the cover, so we played around with light patterns, selective focus and angles in about 7 minutes before moving on to the next environment. John and the Village Voice are always incredible to work with and I really love shooting for them.

New Cover for Russian Chicago Magazine

Check out my new cover of the brilliant &  mesmerizing Natasha Romanova on Russian Chicago Magazine. The Ukrainian socialite and starlit is quickly taking over America’s hearts with her ice blue eyes, melodic voice, hypnotic lyrics and heart pumping beats.

I absolutely love Natasha, she is bright, strong, brilliant, and beautiful. We first met when she was in the band Discrete Encounter, who I shot for some album packaging and press kits awhile back….now working on her solo career she is bursting into the scene all over the world.

Behind the Scenes with BAYSIDE for the new cover for Hot Topic & AP Mag

As the snow melted all over the metro area, I had the pleasure of being asked by Editor Ted Barnes to shoot the new cover and feature story for AP Magazine and Hot Topic Clothing Stores. My cover for this months issue is the band Bayside.

They are a great group of guys to work with, they were punctial (a rarity in rock), professional, funny & were down for anything I threw at them which made the day amazing.

Bayside has a new much anticipated new album out called Killing Time, and fans are going wild. I wish these guys the best, the deserve nothing less.

Get the Limitied Edition Mini Mag at Hot Topics everywhere, and give a big hug to AP Mag who has included a CD, wrist band and poster with the mag. You can also see one of my Bayside photos in the normal edition of the current AP Magazine on newstands now.

Bayside is with Wind-up Records and their manager Catie is a total doll! Watch their little video below.

Behind the Scenes: Overnight Sensation – Glamour Kills

carrie schechter, the Masters of Glamour Kills, and Gabe Saporta

carrie schechter, the Masters of Glamour Kills, and Gabe Saporta

Glamour Kills met with Gabe Saporta & it is an Overnight Sensation.

I recently was asked to shoot the new line by Glamour Kills and Cobra Starship’s Gabe Saporta, OVERNIGHT SENSATION. The shoot took place in Chelsea, NY with Gabe & friends and the creative genius of GK. The line is amazing, I’m in love with the Wolf Geek T.

Gabe had a huge hand in the shoot which was great – we were bouncing ideas of each other when needed, he had a good idea of what he wanted, his ideas were solid, & we went for it. Everyone on set was amazing, the shoot was full of positivity.

What we shot is a different style of light than what I’m mostly know for, but it was what was the best way to show the lifestyle of this line. My normal light was a bit too “pretty” for Overnight Sensation. As a people photographer, it’s about people and connecting to your subject. I am technically trained, I can shoot in any style and its easy for me to see light and shape it. I currently enjoy the light I’ve been playing with that makes up my portfolio, it keeps me challenged and it keeps the blood hot and pumping. I love expressing myself through light, I love doing things differently, and I love switching it up. For this light setup we went for simple, direct, sexy, in your face, and to the point …like the line.

I first met Gabe shooting Cobra Starship for AP Magazine last year, and since then we worked on their current myspace together and now OS. Gabe and Glamour Kills are pretty sensational to work for and I am excited to be part of the release of one of the sickest new lines in ‘09.

Authors and Actresses

carrie schechter tasha alexander

I have had the pleasure of shooting new publicity photos for world renowned author, Tasha Alexander. If you are of the few that haven’t read her books yet, her book; Elizabeth: The Golden Age was a very popular movie last year starring Cate Blanchett. Tasha is an incredible person, she exudes positivity, optimism and happiness. We had a great time on set, she is absolutely gorgeous and a total natural in front of the lens. I’m really excited to have been chosen to shoot her. Finished shot coming soon!

Check out Tasha here: http://www.tashaalexander.com/index.html

I also just shot a new run of publicity photos for actress Ginger Kroll. You can see her in the Notorious B.I.G., soon to be released subHysteria &  Secrets. This blond bombshell has an amazing spirit, a great laugh, and is beyond beautiful. Final shots coming soon!

Taking Back Sunday at the Studio

On a rainy Friday afternoon I had the pleasure of shooting rock band Taking Back Sunday. You can see the article and picture in the amazing Alternative Press Magazine’s Most Anticipated Albums of ’09 December Issue. ON NEWSSTANDS NOW!

Everyone laughed on set so much my cheeks hurt. I could write a million books about what a great group of guys they are. They are funny, intelligent, witty, kind……. just keep inserting adjectives for days and you’ll get a taste of how amazing these guys are. Eddie, who you can tell is the life of every and any party, jumped about 6 feet in the air, crossed his legs and arms and became the flying Buddha. Newcomer to TBS, Fazzi, is the perfect match to the group, carefree, funny, no fear and no ego. I actually found out I went to high school with the brother of the ever sweet and wild TBS drummer Marc…small world.  Adam is a total dream and the camera loves him (as all the fans already know), and Matt R not only jumps high in the air and lands quieter than a  ninja, is hilarious and quite a dancer.

We did one setup in the rain (my favorite of the bunch), with them all looking sexy and sensational, one setup is inspired by NYC per their request, and another is my take on Mr Potato Head meets graph paper. As an extra we did a family Sear’s style Portrait.

The new album, NEW AGAIN, is on its way, and they were so excited about the songs and about what they had created I can tell this will be one of the best new albums.

My Shoot With NOFX

I spent a quick evening with Punk Legends NOFX this winter for a private photo session. You can see the finals shots in this December’s Alternative Press Magazine’s Most Anticipated Albums Issue. (On news stands December 7th)

I was at their hotel for close to an hour as they prepared for the shoot, laughing at all the funny stories of their current tour and late night parties. Although I was warned of the fart machine, it did not make an appearance at the shoot, but the funny stories of bringing it for interviews to torture the tv hosts were priceless.

Behind the scenes Polaroids from my shoot with NOFX

The actual shoot was 13  minutes long with 4 small set shifts (aka – moving around the room counter clockwise 4 times.) Quick and easy. These guys are super funny. They are punk royalty, not that they care about that – they just want to have fun and play music to their ever loyal, ever growing fanbase.

We digitally gave the walls a little upgrade in the final images, otherwise we kept it raw and untouched. FINAL SHOTS COMING SOON!
