Behind the Scenes with BAYSIDE for the new cover for Hot Topic & AP Mag

As the snow melted all over the metro area, I had the pleasure of being asked by Editor Ted Barnes to shoot the new cover and feature story for AP Magazine and Hot Topic Clothing Stores. My cover for this months issue is the band Bayside.

They are a great group of guys to work with, they were punctial (a rarity in rock), professional, funny & were down for anything I threw at them which made the day amazing.

Bayside has a new much anticipated new album out called Killing Time, and fans are going wild. I wish these guys the best, the deserve nothing less.

Get the Limitied Edition Mini Mag at Hot Topics everywhere, and give a big hug to AP Mag who has included a CD, wrist band and poster with the mag. You can also see one of my Bayside photos in the normal edition of the current AP Magazine on newstands now.

Bayside is with Wind-up Records and their manager Catie is a total doll! Watch their little video below.

All-American Rejects for Interscope Records and Olympus

A few months ago on a super hot day in Brooklyn, I had the pleasure of shooting the incredible rock pop sensation the All-American Rejects for Interscope Records and Olympus Audio. I have another shoot with them to be released in November for an editorial spread for the one and only AP Magazine. The people at Interscope Records are just amazing, they treat everyone around them like family, especially the band. There was a lot of love in the room, and nothing makes a shoot better than working for people you believe in. AAR is amazing, they were down for anything at any moment. It was a total dream.

You can find the pictures for Interscope circulating around magazines and other promotional material, and you can find the international Olympus ads everywhere their audio is sold and in most Guitar Centers. Olympus was also a true class act, they are extremely positive people that are super accommodating and care so much about the band and about Interscope, and everyone involved, I was beyond impressed with them as individuals and as a collective.

The day was wild with splitting shooting between the guys filming their commercial for Nike’s human race, not to mention 6 setups in studio and 2 more on location in a 6 hour period made this one heck of an adventure. I shoot extremely quickly to begin with, and I rarely stay on a setup for more than 15 minutes especially with this kind of a schedule. My assistants main job is maintaining the stop watch, and giving me 5 minute marks, until we get down to 3min-2min-next set change. Everyone on this team was amazing, especially the guys from Oklahoma, they are hysterical and total sweethearts. The quote of the day.. ”That’s what she said.”

END THE STARS…in the studio

If you haven’t already heard of End The Stars, you’re about to as they gear up for this summer’s Warped Tour.

I first me the boys at the Tea Lounge in Brooklyn a few months ago to have a sit down and discuss the upcoming shoot. A rarity and a pleasure, the guys catered their shoot themselves. Matt Chiarelli, bassist, brought me homemade vegan pasta salad the day of the shoot, and I fell in love with these boys even more. Over these last few months, they have become like family to me, and I’m really excited for their futures.

ETS‘s crew is made up of:

  • John Secolo – VOX, guitar
  • Matt Chiarelli – Bass
  • Anthony Natoli – Guitar
  • Nick Carbone – Drummer
I hand painted and created all the backgrounds for most of the shots. For one of their new songs, GODFISTS, during live performances, the lights go down on stage and the black lights come on, the special paint they’ve been wearing the whole show comes to life, and you hear people gasp everywhere – its sick – but the song is ridiculous and one of my personal favorites. That is how these last few images are shot.

on set with…SPORTS!!

Coming out in next month’s AP Magazine, here’s a few behind the scenes Polaroids of my shoot with SPORTS. This September’s issue is about everyones favorite bands new/side projects. The guys couldn’t be here at the same time, so I was handed the photoshop challenge. This crew of longtime friends are a riot – I can’t wait to show the final products!!! All I’ll say is there lots of jumping, totem pole building, & virtual tobogganing going on. Also get ready for Nick Hook (Men, Woman and Children)’s R. Kelly shirt.

  • Me & Orson Wells

Zoe is incredible person to work with, and I look forward to cheering her on for all her upcoming successes!

Just shot for AP Magazine

Check the July 2008 issue of Alternative Press Magazine for my shots of actress Zoe Kazan. She’s in upcoming movies August with Josh Hartnett, and Revolutionary Road with Leonardo DiCaprio.

Zoe comes for a prestigious line of creative talent. Grandfather Elia Kazan, known for directing Street Car Named Desire, Gentleman’s Agreement & On the Water to name a few, Zoe’s mother is writer, producer Robin Swicord (screenplay/Memoirs of a Geisha), and father, writer, producer, director Nicholas Kazan (screenplay Homegrown).

Zoe is sassy and intelligent and was a pleasure to shoot. Her talents, her independence and her strength of spirit are going to be great support to her during her amazing ride into Hollywoods legends.

I will be able to release the pics June 25th….
