New Cover. The Vampire Diaries. The Return:Midnight

The last book of my first trilogy for The Vampire Diaries, The Return - by L.J. Smith. I shot for the incredible HarperCollins Publishers, who I LOVE, they are all such a great group of people! This cover was art directed by the incredible and warm-hearted David Caplan, graphic design by the lovely and talented Jennifer Heuer, hair and makeup extraordinaire Roshar, one of my favorite team members. First asst Derrick C.

The shoot was lovely, I adored our model!! She became the character Caroline in the novel. What an amazing day we had on set, it’s an incredible series to be a part of. Congrats to all the success of the books and tv show and everyone involved, esp the fabulous L.J. Smith.

Behind the Scenes with BAYSIDE for the new cover for Hot Topic & AP Mag

As the snow melted all over the metro area, I had the pleasure of being asked by Editor Ted Barnes to shoot the new cover and feature story for AP Magazine and Hot Topic Clothing Stores. My cover for this months issue is the band Bayside.

They are a great group of guys to work with, they were punctial (a rarity in rock), professional, funny & were down for anything I threw at them which made the day amazing.

Bayside has a new much anticipated new album out called Killing Time, and fans are going wild. I wish these guys the best, the deserve nothing less.

Get the Limitied Edition Mini Mag at Hot Topics everywhere, and give a big hug to AP Mag who has included a CD, wrist band and poster with the mag. You can also see one of my Bayside photos in the normal edition of the current AP Magazine on newstands now.

Bayside is with Wind-up Records and their manager Catie is a total doll! Watch their little video below.

NY Fashion Week – Merge

Me wearing an EngieStyle original design at the runway's white carpet

Been a quick minute since fashion week but I had to take a minute to blog about the Merge/ Dominique Auxilly fashion show I attended. Dominique is the designer of the red dress I wore when I hosted EngieStyle’s one year anniversary. Her dresses grace the top fashion mag’s and shine on the red carpet on celebs like Nicki Minaj, Angela Simmons, Brandy, Shontelle, etc.

Her new line is gorgeous, and so is Dominique. Thanks girl for putting me in your beautiful dresses and for the VIP treatment at the runway. Also a big shout out to Engie Hassan, stylist/designer extraordinaire!

The show was put on by Merge and Beautiful Planning, there were many designers and lots of gorgeous clothes I can’t wait to wear! For some reason I can’t find the runway photos….but there are some exciting shoots coming up featuring some of the beautiful clothes! Can’t wait!

Me First and the Gimme Gimmes: Behind the Scenes

A few months ago I had the pleasure to shoot Me First and The Gimme Gimmes for Fat Wreck Chords . We met on a chilly afternoon in Williamsburg Brooklyn to shoot a few EP covers and a press kit. I met Vanessa (Mutiny) & Fat Mike a year ago when I shot his other band NOFX for Alternative Press Magazine. We had a great time on the first shoot and I was excited they chose me for this project.

Me First and the Gimme Gimmes are amazing. I love when intelligence is mixed with punk sarcasm. It’s a pleasure to work with them as always. The first EP cover released is Go Down Under, its awesome and out now. Look forward to my next few EP covers to come out soon.  Behind the Scenes photos by: Eric B.

Fashion Party – Behind the Scenes

Getting my makeup done by Ruth

On 2.2.11 I hosted Engie Hassan’s, CEO of EngieStyle, web launch and 1 year anniversary celebration. It was a bit nerve-racking getting on a 4 foot wooden box in 6 inch Jimmy Choo’s to deliver my speech, but I made it. The celebration was a huge success with a room full of  heavy hitters in the fashion and celebrity industry.  We sat high above the city at the Hudson Terrace in their rooftop glass cabana. Engie did an amazing job as did her team, Iman, Sam, Emily, Steph, Ash and Steven. On my side I had the fabulous and lovely Megan Toscano, who is a major asset to anyones life. I’m super proud of Engie and everything she has accomplished and was honored to be a part of the celebration.

We had the joy of wearing Dominique Auxilly’s beautiful gowns. One of the most popular questions of the night was “Who are you wearing?” Her dresses are a smash hit whether its on the red carpet or covering the pages of fashion magazines.

The press photos & tv interviews are out and about (you can see one here), below are some point-n-shoot photos & a home-movie. Photographed/Filmed by Megan Toscano.

BTS – The Situation Workout DVD

mike, zoe, marc, casey, mike, carrie, eric, cristine, cheryl, jonny photo by: ross

A few months ago I had the pleasure to shoot for the incredible Gaiam.  I  have loved Gaiam workout dvd’s since I can remember (esp power yoga with Rodney Yee) and I was super excited for the opportunity and the privilege to work for them. I had worked with Mike “the Situation” when I shot the Jersey Shore boys (minus Pauly D) for a cover for the incredible Village Voice in July (check the behind the scenes here), so I was ready to embark on adventure #2 with the Jersey Shore star.

This time we had Mike’s bff Jonny “The Unit” (who is also in his workout video – a teddybear with muscles), and Mike’s super sweet & charasmatic brother Marc “The Man” & his powerhouse of a manager Mike on set. I honestly can’t say enough nice things about this crew – they are workhorses who are  loyal and supportive of each other, it’s really wonderful to be around such a great group of guys. The MPS crew/ Sorrentino clan once again was professional, fun, and enjoyable to work with. There is a reason they have skyrocketed in their success…they deserve it – they treat the people around them like kings and queens.

a pushup contest with me and the sitch

We had fabulous art direction from Cristine Hammer (a visual mastermind) and Sue Haney from Gaiam (an incredible woman who over saw the entire shoot and was a pleasure to work with). Cheryl Janowski /stylist, Zoe Gensel/groomer, Eric B/ 1st asst, Ross P/ 2nd asst, kwc/prod, and me myself and I.

Wishin’ Gaiam, The Stich, The Man, The Unit and MPS another successful year in ’11.

Niia…..behind the scenes

carrie schechter niia bertino

me, niia

I photographed the girl with the magic voice a little while ago…. her name is Niia Bertino. (Check out some of the finals shots here.) She is a classically trained pianist with one of the most intoxicating voices I’ve heard in a while. I’m in love with “Masochist” and “Learn My Body” at the moment.

From age 16-21 Niia was signed to Wyclef Jeans label. I recognized her voice from  Wyclef’s smash, Sweetest Girl (Dollar Bill) featuring Akon, Lil Wayne, Raekwon & Niia.

I met Niia at her old managers office to discuss shooting her press kit … I loved her as much as I love her music. Niia knew exactly how she wanted to be photographed, which was awesome.

Before the shoot I went to see her live. The audience hardly breaths while she sings, which almost led to a riot when the bartender dared try to shake a martini for a customer during “Last Man”.

On set: The fabulous designer and stylist  Gigi Burris,  the talented hair and makeup artist Michelle Coursey , myself, and my 1st Eric B. convened at Niia’s residence with Rocco & Wednesday on a beastly hot summer afternoon. Now working on her solo career, Niia is recording her new album and I personally can’t wait.
