Recently my new book cover photo for the incredible NY Times Best Selling Author, Kelley Armstrong’s “The Gathering” hit shelves.
I was very excited when HarperCollins Publishers called me up for the new trilogy by Kelley. She is an incredible talent and from what I hear a sensational person. The people I’ve rec’d her books to, have become huge fans of hers after the first chapter. HC is one of my favorite clients, they love to create visually stunning work that captivates its audience, and they are just really great people to work for. The lead character’s name is Maya and HC made sure we stayed as true as we could to the characters Native American heritage when casting our model Michelle.
Michelle is gorgeous and a total sweetheart! We had a great time on set with a killer crew.
The Art Director is none other than Hillary Zarycky, graphic designer is super star Erin Fitzsimmons. Hair by the incredible Jamal Hodges. Makeup by the sweet Jennifer Nam. Styling by the amazing Blythe Cain (who was creating new jewelery for the client on set) My assts are Eric and JJ.
The 2nd book cover has already showed up on-line, called “The Calling.” It hits shelves in 2012.
I’m very honored to be chosen to photograph another trilogy for Kelley and HarperCollins. Can’t wait for the next 2 books to come out! Congrats Kelley and HarperCollins on another smash hit!
The last book of my first trilogy for The Vampire Diaries, The Return - by L.J. Smith. I shot for the incredible HarperCollins Publishers, who I LOVE, they are all such a great group of people! This cover was art directed by the incredible and warm-hearted David Caplan, graphic design by the lovely and talented Jennifer Heuer, hair and makeup extraordinaire Roshar, one of my favorite team members. First asst Derrick C.
The shoot was lovely, I adored our model!! She became the character Caroline in the novel. What an amazing day we had on set, it’s an incredible series to be a part of. Congrats to all the success of the books and tv show and everyone involved, esp the fabulous L.J. Smith.

In random news ….
At a celebration one night, a friend in the daytime drama industry and I were joking about me being on tv. A month later the casting directors intern from As the World Turns called and I had the opportunity to be an extra.
I arrived at the studio & was showed to my private dressing room. After I got settled (and tried to calm down the mutant butterflies in my stomach) I took a walk to the green room for lunch and was overtaken by a warm & loving crew & cast that welcomed me right in.

I hear the call over the speakers that its time for me to go to set. I get my final dusting, wardrobe check, the director gave me some quick direction, someone shouts….”quiet on set….aaaaand…action”. one take, no walk through, and that’s a rap.
It was a blast, but I couldn’t wait to get back to the other side of the camera for a cover shoot the following day. See the clip below – if you blink you’ll miss me walking through the background.
**I highly recommend turning the volume off, I haven’t figured out how to remove the loud “hum” yet…sorry.

I photographed the girl with the magic voice a little while ago…. her name is Niia Bertino. (Check out some of the finals shots here.) She is a classically trained pianist with one of the most intoxicating voices I’ve heard in a while. I’m in love with “Masochist” and “Learn My Body” at the moment.
From age 16-21 Niia was signed to Wyclef Jeans label. I recognized her voice from Wyclef’s smash, Sweetest Girl (Dollar Bill) featuring Akon, Lil Wayne, Raekwon & Niia.

I met Niia at her old managers office to discuss shooting her press kit … I loved her as much as I love her music. Niia knew exactly how she wanted to be photographed, which was awesome.
Before the shoot I went to see her live. The audience hardly breaths while she sings, which almost led to a riot when the bartender dared try to shake a martini for a customer during “Last Man”.
On set: The fabulous designer and stylist Gigi Burris, the talented hair and makeup artist Michelle Coursey , myself, and my 1st Eric B. convened at Niia’s residence with Rocco & Wednesday on a beastly hot summer afternoon. Now working on her solo career, Niia is recording her new album and I personally can’t wait.
In loving memory of Rocco Bertino. Huge thanks to the wonderful Cory Greenwell for the behind the scenes photos!!

Page 6 – Photo of me photographing the new DVD cover for the amazing Gaiam! My shoot for the new workout DVD from The Jersey Shore’s Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino, was covered in the New York Post’s Page 6. Behind the scenes & DVD release this December.
Check out my other shoot with Mike earlier this summer: behind the scenes from our Village Voice shoot here and finals here.
After going to the Bauhaus exhibit some months back at the MOMA, I was even more inspired to go back to basics..light, line and shape. I walked into Mood, and got excited by spools of thread and snaps…finals below.

I had the pleasure of shooting three of the guys from MTV’s #1 show, The Jersey Shore last week. The images are being featured on the cover of today’s new issue of The Village Voice; Art director, the one and only John Dixon.
On our 4-5 hour tour we had Ronnie Magro, Vinny Guadagnino and Mike ‘The Situation’ Sorrentino. The boys were total pros on set; light-hearted, hysterical, and total gentlemen. We all had a lot of fun! John decided to go simple, bright, and shoot them being themselves(which was the exactly where my brain was, so I was very happy to take the job). Though we were in a very industrial part of Williamsburg, Brooklyn, far away from the public and paparazzi, within 1 minute of The Situation going out to smoke a cigarette, young girls in sexy clothes materialized out of thin air. It was pretty comical. All I can say is a few of us still have an odd urge to go tanning…
I wish the cast a unbelievable amount of success, they deserve it.
I had a great team on set, credits below. Also a special shout out to Emily Yeomans from MTV. Thank you guys!

Coming out in next month’s AP Magazine, here’s a few behind the scenes Polaroids of my shoot with SPORTS. This September’s issue is about everyones favorite bands new/side projects. The guys couldn’t be here at the same time, so I was handed the photoshop challenge. This crew of longtime friends are a riot – I can’t wait to show the final products!!! All I’ll say is there lots of jumping, totem pole building, & virtual tobogganing going on. Also get ready for Nick Hook (Men, Woman and Children)’s R. Kelly shirt.
