Congratulation to MTV & Billboard Jams recording artist MYSELF for the huge record release party for his album “Protest in Disguise” I have done many photo sessions with MYSELF, the first at the infamous Chung King Recording Studios in NYC, where I have an open invitation to use the studios for photography at any time as a favor from Chung Kings. (thank you Chung King and Moose!!!) MYSELF is a New Orleans based hip hop/funkadelic sound signed to Caroline/EMI Records.

After MYSELF and most of his family survived Katrina in NO, he met director Oliver Stone who was filming a documentary and speaking to MYSELF’s mom, MYSELF stood up and just free styled his heart out, Oliver immediately impressed with the music and his soul, sent his DP and some crew to film MYSELF’s first music video, God is So Funky, in New Orleans as a gift. The video is  heart wrenching as he walks through his neighborhood after Katrina in NO while his sings his message. Since then MYSELF has been everywhere. With top Manager KC (who in the past managed Jay-Z, Snoop Dog, Gwen Stafani, Red Hot Chili Peppers, etc.) and Giant Step his world wide tours and MTV coverage are growing every day.

CHECK VIDEO HERE

Check him in upcoming film Order of Redemption with Busta Rhymes, where MYSELF plays himself, :) ,  and has an appearance on the soundtrack. He is working on a new project where he will work with friends Mos Def, Talib Kweli and Tribe Called Quest.

MYSELF is an amazing person with the drive of champions, his beautiful girlfriend is top Japanese Jewelry designer Hitomi.  I shot her catalogue and promotional material for her line a little while ago as well. We’ve all become very tight friends, and I am so excited to watch him catapult into stardom.

Book: The Summoning

Congratulations Kelley Armstrong, David Caplan, Joel Tippie, HarperCollins, my entire glam squad, and Ms Courtney – our gorgeous model! The first book in the series has made the NY Times Best Sellers List within a few weeks of its release. There’s already a frenzy for Book Two, which we just finished shooting and retouching last week, and we will begin production and shooting Book 3 in a few months.

FU-DA

Also check out the new eco-clothing line from Fu-Da International coming to stores soon. Their clothing is made from Bamboo and organic cotton. I shot the hang tags, packaging and promotions for them a little while ago, and the clothing looked extremely comfortable. Go Green!!!

Coming soon……Cover of Barcelona’s Medium Magazine and feature spread!!

top secretness

Work has begun on my super duper top secret project. This is a personal project that started to run aorund my brain a few months ago, and I’ve been working it out with my marketing consultant, my graphic designers, my writers, and some of the groups that will be featured. It’s going to be one of my hardest challenges yet – which makes it all the more enjoyable and juicy. I’m hoping to have it released before the holiday season ‘09, but I know the only plan is no plan. My clients always come first, so if not out my this holiday season it will be out by next.

ALL-AMERICAN REJECTS….coming to the studio

July 15, 2008 · 1 Comment

ALL-AMERICAN REJECTS come to the studio this week to shoot a variety of material with me. I get the boys after finishing up opening up for 5 shows for  Bon Jovi, and getting ready for some of their own travels. We start the day shooting a feature for AP Magazine’s November Issue, followed by promotional, marketing, press, merch, etc. for Interscope Records and then adds for Olympus Recorders.

AP has a reputation for having the magic touch – every band they feature blows up into superhero status in no time. The ever popular AAR has graced not only AP’s covers but has been featured all over the map in every music mag you can think of. Some of their best known songs are  ”Dirty Little Secret” and “Move Along.” These boys have a killer sound, and a new album is on its way very soon.

Interscope Records is a top notch record company, and I’m really excited to work with this incredible creative, marketing and A&R team.

The Olympus shots will appear in Guitar Centers, international print ads and promotional material. The Olympus marketing peeps are really fun to work with.

Get ready for some amazing photos…coming soon

Check out AAR’s website here.

END THE STARS…in the studio

July 3, 2008 · Leave a Comment

If you haven’t already heard of End The Stars, you’re about to as they gear up for this summer’s Warped Tour.

I first me the boys at the Tea Lounge in Brooklyn a few months ago to have a sit down and discuss the upcoming shoot. A rarity and a pleasure, the guys catered their shoot themselves. Matt Chiarelli, bassist, brought me homemade vegan pasta salad the day of the shoot, and I fell in love with these boys even more. Over these last few months, they have become like family to me, and I’m really excited for their futures.

ETS’s crew is made up of:

  • John Secolo – VOX, guitar
  • Matt Chiarelli – Bass
  • Anthony Natoli – Guitar
  • Nick Carbone - Drummer
I hand painted and created all the backgrounds for most of the shots. For one of their new songs, GODFISTS, during live performances, the lights go down on stage and the black lights come on, the special paint they’ve been wearing the whole show comes to life, and you hear people gasp everywhere – its sick – but the song is ridiculous and one of my personal favorites. That is how these last few images are shot.
Check out LIVE ETS here.

July 3, 2008 · 1 Comment

Coming out in next month’s AP Magazine, here’s a few behind the scenes Polaroids of my shoot with SPORTS. This September’s issue is about everyones favorite bands new/side projects. The guys couldn’t be here at the same time, so I was handed the photoshop challenge. This crew of longtime friends are a riot – I can’t wait to show the final products!!! All I’ll say is there lots of jumping, totem pole building, & virtual tobogganing going on. Also get ready for Nick Hook (Men, Woman and Children)’s R. Kelly shirt.

END THE STARS……LIVE!

July 3, 2008 · 1 Comment

I shot End the Stars for their new press kit and album. I fell in love with their music immediately, it just gives you that feeling inside like you could take over the world. Drummer, Nick Carbone, describes the band as a “freshly emerging hard rock band with the intent of leading rock music back in the right direction.”

I recently caught them at one of my favorite clubs in NYC - The Knitting Factory. I felt like I was at a huge production at M.S.G.! ..the lights, the smoke and effects were in perfect rhythm with every note. Being together for almost a year, these guys do it all, and bring it every time.

With record labels knocking down their doors, it’s going to be a busy time for them, although I think their focus right now is on writing more music and preparing for their spot on this summers Warped Tour.

On new stands now – Alternative Press Magazine’s August issue. This month’s “screening” section, I was given the privilege to shoot Zoe Kazan. I’ve mentioned all her accomplishments earlier in the blog, so lets just say – I hope Zoe kick’s ass and take no  prisoners in current movie August, and upcoming movies:

  • Revolutionary Road
  • Me & Orson Wells
  • The Private Lives of Pippa Lee

Zoe is incredible person to work with, and I look forward to cheering her on for all her upcoming successes!

The Summoning…

July 3, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Check out The Summoning by NY Times best selling author a Kelley Armstrong in bookstores now!!

The first in a trilogy, The Summoning revolves around Chloe, a teenage necromancer just coming into her powers while getting locked up in an odd private school…and the adventures begin. Chloe is played by model Courtney Erickson, a very beautiful & sassy La. native whom I love dearly. The concept was created by the incredible David Caplan, Art Director for HarperCollins, and the design of the cover was done by  Joel Tippie. We’ve just shot the second book, The Awakening, last week, and soon we will start post production. I’m excited to begin working on it, its another great vision from David, and the fabulous Joel is on board to design the layout. The book is scheduled for release in 2009.

One of the biggest challenges in photography is holding onto the images and not showing them anywhere until its released by your client, especially when its shot a year or more in advance. I think its the toughest part of the job. So until next year……..
